Flashback Friday - "I Am Love," The Jackson 5

If you want to feel old, hang around a bunch of younguns having that decades-long battle: Jackie or Jermaine? If you really ARE old and you're hearing this...well, sorry. Hot stays hot forever.
On one hand, there's Jackie.
"I swear, these are not my kids."
Pros: He's big, he's strong-looking, he planned to play pro baseball, and he had the best fro.
Cons: Looks like he doesn't always get the joke.
"What?"
On the other hand, there's Jermaine.
Pros: Pepsodent smile. Plays the bass guitar. Very underrated as a vocalist and a musician.
Cons: Has been giving off goober vibes since 1968.
I guess it doesn't matter who you chose because in the end, they both came out like this:
The correct answer was Tito.
Anyway, lil' young bucks and Michael Jackson fanatics never seem to give the 5 their due when it comes to the shaping of Michael's career. Ask them, and they'll tell you that the Jackson 5 was nothing but Michael's back-up band. In reality, not only did Michael perform with his brothers for nearly 20 years before becoming Michael Jackson, he cut four solo albums prior to Off the Wall* that most people can't name**. The J5 did wonderful work in their later years - especially considering that Tito and Jermaine were constants on guitar - and there are lots of forgotten gems. This is one of them.
Maybe this is when they were at their strongest since this was around the time Michael and Marlon started being about Jackie's height, and he didn't look like the goofy brother who got held back a few grades. Don't get me wrong, I still blast "Maybe Tomorrow" like there isn't going to be one, but if you're not familiar with the J5's later work - including their post-Motown work w/Epic Records, when they became "The Jacksons" - then don't twist your mouth to say you know anything about the Jackson Five, because you don't.
Oh, and because this never gets old:
Best. Theme. Ever. Man, I love Black Michael.
*Michael's best album, bar none.
**Got to Be There, Ben, Music & Me, and Forever, Michael.
